Automated Application of Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) and Polyolefin Adhesive Powder

RAPTOR™ was developed by PIH as a fully automated, multi-functional machine for the efficient application of powder coatings to welded field joints, combining both pre-heat and powder application in one machine. RAPTOR is used in areas of onshore and offshore pipeline construction for the application of powder coatings.

RAPTOR Application Methods

Traditional methods for the application of powder coatings to the joint area involve separate pre-heat and coating activities.

RAPTOR equipment is fully automated, designed to simultaneously pre-heat and apply powder coatings all within one machine (both pre-heat and coating activities are carried out within the same unit).

The machine is positioned centrally over the field joint before the automated heat and coating process is initiated. The equipment combines high-frequency induction coils and a bespoke powder delivery system. Induction coils inside the machine are set at a predetermined distance to the pipe’s surface. The coils are pre-programmed to rotate around the pipe, induction heating the field joint area. Once the steel reaches the desired powder application temperature the application process begins. The powder is applied until the desired coating thickness is achieved.
